"Let's Feed 60 Thousand" to be special Day of Caring project
United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley and UnitedHealthcare, along with the support of additional Day of Caring sponsors, aspires to assemble 60,000 meals for local food pantries as a part of the 2016 United Way Day of Caring.
Day of Caring will take place on Friday, September 16th. This is an annual event that joins the community together with the common goal of making the Greater Chippewa Valley stronger. Every year, hundreds of volunteers are dispersed throughout the Chippewa Valley donating their time and talents to assist area non-profits with projects to maintain or enhance their services to the public.
This year, United Way and UnitedHealthcare are excited to announce that they, with the help of the additional event sponsors, will once again be partnering to assemble and package meals for local food pantries.
Last year being the inaugural year as a Day of Caring project, United Way called the event, “Let’s Feed 50 Thousand,” to reflect the goal of packaging 50,000 meal servings. This goal was met and exceeded by the sale of T-shirts to volunteers. With over 140 volunteers taking part, a total of 52,200 meals were assembled. Each meal consisted of a vitamin- and protein-fortified macaroni and cheese dinner, and was distributed to over 30 area food pantries with the help of Feed My People Food Bank.
With the success of last year’s project, United Way and UnitedHealthcare now announce “Let’s Feed 60 Thousand” as this year’s Day of Caring project. The hope is to assemble 60,000 or more meal servings in order to serve a greater number of individuals in the Greater Chippewa Valley.
The sale of Day of Caring T-shirts is a key component to making this year’s “Let’s Feed 60 Thousand” project successful. United Way is once again utilizing all of the proceeds from the T-shirt sales to fund the cost of these nutrient-rich meals.
Anyone, volunteer or not, can purchase a T-shirt and have an active role in helping to feed the Greater Chippewa Valley. T-shirts are available at www.uwgcv.org/day-caring for a cost of $10 per shirt for S-XL and $12.50 for 2X-3X. (Click the T-shirt image to purchase online). For every T-shirt purchased, approximately 20 additional meal servings will be offered to area food pantries. T-shirts must be ordered before August 12th. Those purchasing a T-shirt to support the project can pick up their shirt at the United Way office, 3603 N. Hastings Way, Suite 200, Eau Claire on or after September 7th.
The kick-off event for the “Let’s Feed 60 Thousand” project will take place at 9:00 A.M. on September 16th, at the Eau Claire Indoor Sport’s Center, who is donating their facility for the project.
